PROVIDENCE, RI — On Monday, RAISE US CEO and Co-Chair, 40th U.S. Secretary of Commerce, and 75th Governor of Rhode Island Gina Raimondo convened senior partners from across the public and private sectors, organized labor, higher education, and philanthropy in Providence, Rhode Island to help prepare American workers for the transition to an AI economy.
The convening was part of RAISE US’ work to mobilize a broad coalition to pilot, test, and scale programs and policies to navigate AI-related economic changes. Over 50 top officials from across the country and across sectors joined Secretary Raimondo, RAISE US co-Chair Governor Eric Holcomb, and RAISE US staff for a full day of discussions around ensuring American workers have the right skills, training, and opportunities to get ahead in a changing economy.
Across sessions, RAISE US leaders and participants discussed the latest data on how AI is beginning to affect the labor market, broader economy, and individual companies; compared notes on best practices for retraining and educating jobs-ready workers; and provided input on RAISE US’ areas of focus on programmatic work since its public launch in June.
“I was thrilled to bring together such a talented and diverse group of leaders in Rhode Island this week,” said Gina Raimondo, CEO and Co-Chair of RAISE US. “We’re on the verge of historic changes for the American economy and it's going to take all of us – the private sector, labor, government, educational institutions, and philanthropies – working together to make sure American workers are not left behind. RAISE US’ role is to serve as a central organizing node in this effort, and my team and I left yesterday’s session energized and with fresh insights for the work ahead.”
